Liberty Island

Physical / Mobility

The buildings on Liberty Island, including the Information Center, the Bookstore, the Cafeteria, and the Gift Pavillion are accessible by stairs, ramps, and elevators. Some ramps may be in the back of buildings.

If you need a wheelchair, you may get one free of charge from the Information Center, though supplies are limited.

The narrow design of the crown limits access. It is available by reservation only, and can be reached by stairs only. Stairs are narrow and steep, and the crown staircase is a spiral with one section ascending up and the other going down. There is no elevator access to the top.

Hearing Impaired

Guests with hearing loss accessibility can find park information in a variety of formats. The audio tour program is available in a variety of languages including American Sign Language (interpreter signing displayed on screen), and printed versions of the self guided tour are available at the information desk.

At the Statue of Liberty Museum, audio guides, which are available in ASL, can be used throughout the museum’s galleries.

Additionally, American Sign Language Tours may be arranged prior to your visit. If you wish to arrange for an ASL Tour, you need to notify the National Park Service in at least two (2) weeks prior to your visit. Please contact the NPS by sending an e-mail or a letter.
