Built by Laird Brothers, Liverpool, England, 1889. 3,908 gross tons; 374 (bp) feet long; 44 feet wide. Steam triple expansion engines, twin screw.  Service speed 14 knots.  1,430 passengers (30 first class, 1,400 third class).One funnel and two masts. Two decks and spar deck.

Built for Compania Transatlantica Espanola, Spanish flag, in 1889 and named Santa Barbara. Sold to Hamburg-American Line, German flag, in 1896 and renamed Russia. Hamburg-New York and Mediterranean-New York service. Also used by American Line. Sold to Russian owners, in 1899 and renamed Odessa. Scrapped in France in 1927.
